If the answer is ‘yes’, come and join Ringway Jacobs and get your career off to the best start possible, we currently have two vacanices as a Public Relations Apprentice with either the Essex Highways Communications Team or Safer Essex Roads Partnership Team .


Responsibilities

As an apprentice Public Relations Assistant you will have good written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable talking to people from all walks of life.  You will assist in areas such as:

Media and message management – understanding how the media operates, dealing with day to day enquiries from the media, selecting strategies and tactics to pitch stories, draft press releases, creating media lists, monitoring traditional media coverage, particularly local media

Digital media - Updating and monitoring social media channels including Twitter. Create and manage content to the social media channels and the external website, including development of short videos. Updating video screens used for staff messages, and development of web pages using content management tools

Assisting with the delivery and evaluation of campaigns - supporting the Communications team brainstorming, creating tactics, understanding the key elements of developing a strategy and monitoring and evaluation

Research and data analysis - be able to research information for the team and report key details. Liaise with engineering teams to identify trends and patterns, which would benefit from communications activity. Support responses to highways Freedom of Information requests

Assisting with events - planning, organising and coordinating public and staff events, meeting the objectives of the brief

Assisting in design – learning and improving skills in using design software (specifically InDesign and Adobe Creative Cloud apps) to create online and printed materials within brand guidelines, including pamphlets, periodicals, posters and other marketing materials

During your apprenticeship 20% of your time will be off the job training, working towards your diploma in Public Relations. You will be guided and supported by your manager and your apprenticeship advisor and tutor throughout, which will enable you to gain the essential skills and job knowledge required to achieve your apprenticeship programme.  At work you will demonstrate this knowledge and apply these skills to your role.

Skills and Experience

Talented, ambitious and enthusiastic individual with a passion for designing, creating and writing content over broad range digital channels; an effective communicator with the desire to develop relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders; a flexible and willing attitude, enthusiasm to support team initiatives and promote a motivated workforce. 

You will also need to meet the following minimum criteria:

5 GCSEs at Grades A*- C including Maths and English or their equivalent. Apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to have achieved this prior to taking the end assessment.

A minimum of 3 A Levels A*- C or equivalent would be desirable.
