Description

To support and deliver proactive local communications and information for a prioritised list of temporary works or longer programmed sites, that are sensitive locally, by liaising with relevant service teams, and local politicians, communities, businesses & stakeholders, to inform & engage.


Responsibilities

Supports identified highways works schemes by crafting and implementing communications plans. This may include works planned by ITS; Structures; Development Management; Capital Maintenance and Major Projects, and other works as identified as a priority for comms support.

Under direction from the Highways Stakeholder Communications Officer, works with relevant in-service teams, implements community outreach communications designed to support schemes.

Devises, produces and publishes production of appropriate relevant communication material, e.g. web pages, tweets, letters for residents/businesses, leaflets, newsletters, videos, for distribution or display in relation to planned works.

Engages with key stakeholder groups e.g. local County Member(s), Parishes, local businesses, special interest groups

Attends meeting with elected members, other highways officers and members of the public as required

Builds on existing and develops new relationships with key service teams, decision makers, member organisations, client organisation and others

Supports and advises engineering leads on customer service or reputational issues that may impact scheme delivery plans. Under limited supervision, manages/co-agrees mitigation communications, including messages and timing

Acts in accordance with the objectives and ethos of Ringway Jacobs and the client

Undertakes other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time

Promotes a customer centric culture while delivering continual efficiencies and service improvements

Demonstrates a knowledgeable understanding of all Essex Highways’ activities

To maintain and enhance the reputation of Essex Highways by encouraging and demonstrating our core value of integrity


Skills and Experience

Good interpersonal and communication skills, with individuals and groups

Good written English and an eye for detail and contradiction

Good judgment and problem solving skills, including some negotiation and conflict resolution ability

Organisation and planning competence, plus ability to monitor and follow through to delivery

Experience dealing directly with the public

Ability to work calmly under pressure and within small dynamic team

Ideally, some pre-knowledge of the highways industry

Standard office ICT skills including, ideally, some confidence using social media and web editing tools

Full driving licence

Ability to keep up to date technically and applying new knowledge to your role

Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive

Good networker

Customer focused
