Description

We have an exciting Communication Officer role working with the Communications team, this role will be on a fixed term contract to cover maternity Leave. We are happy to consider this role as full time or part time working hours. The role involves working as part of the Communications team to develop and issue internal and external communications across all appropriate media to protect and enhance the reputation of Cheshire East Highways, Cheshire East Council and Ringway Jacobs. 

The Communications team at Cheshire East Highways help Senior Management and service delivery teams to engage with key stakeholder groups through the provision of advice and guidance.  This support includes the development of communications material, attendance at events or meetings, management of the website and social media and the development of and promotion of, campaigns to manage the expectations of the public and other stakeholders.


Responsibilities

 To work in accordance with the Cheshire East Highways Communications Strategy and Plan, and promote compliance with this guidance amongst service delivery teams

Shape the delivery of proactive communications activities at Cheshire East Highways (including internal and external communications, web, social media and press)

Seek out, and produce stories of interest to promote the service to internal and external audiences

Work with teams to initiate, create and develop engaging messages that are delivered through a variety of communications channels, in line with team communications plans

Lead on the day to day management of digital communications channels including web and the service Twitter account

Support team leaders to deal with the press in preparing proactive press releases and responses to media enquiries

Commission articles for trade, press and broadcast media and initiate campaigns

To provide timely and accurate information to Elected Members, Parish Councils and the general public on all highway-related matters as required

Prepare and brief information for senior managers and Members on issues that arise

Promote and implement the Cheshire East Highways branding in all communications and oversee adherence to brand guidance across Cheshire East Highways

Work closely with colleagues in Cheshire East Council’s Contact Centre to enhance the information available to enable them to increase the number of queries that can be closed at first point of contact

Maintain relationships with Cheshire East Council Corporate Communications and Contact Centre teams to ensure that each are aware of any emerging issues

Organise, manage and attend events and conferences

Photograph or film works on the network, or attendance at events and conferences for promotional use

Liaise with Ringway Jacobs colleagues and shareholder companies in the provision of information, or the organisation of promotional opportunities

Provide information about Cheshire East Highways to other Ringway Jacobs contracts and the Ringway Jacobs Corporate Communications Manager

Promote Social Value activities

Promote and support Equality & Diversity activities

Promote Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) activities across Cheshire East Highways


Skills and Experience

A level, HNC educated, or equivalent experience including GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths

Degree or equivalent qualification in communications, marketing, business management or other relevant subject

Proven excellent written communication skills

Experience of dealing with members of the public, including through events and at public meetings

Good political awareness with an understanding of how to engage with local politicians

Understanding of, and experience in, the implementation of community engagement activities (i.e. volunteer groups, charity fundraising etc.)

Knowledge of digital / social media

Required to be mobile throughout Cheshire East and therefore possess a valid driving licence and use of car

Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key people both internally and externally

Proactive and creative approach, with a keen interest in communications improvement

Enthusiastic team player with an ability to work with colleagues at various levels in Ringway Jacobs and Cheshire East Council
