Highway Operative with LGV

The main purpose of the role is to assist, generally as part of a team, in delivering highway maintenance and construction works, with ability to drive LGV vehicles. We have roles based out of our Brunswick and Wardle Depot.
Work as part of the highway maintenance operational team
Carry out a variety of skilled tasks including carriageway, footway, drainage maintenance.
Ensure that all works are completed safely
Receive daily briefings and understand risks and control measures required for the task
Complete daily record sheets and associated documents
Ensure that works are completed to the required standard and within required timescales
Report safety concerns
Ensure waste is dealt with in the appropriate manner
Carriageway and footway patching and construction.
Drainage works, including laying pipes, resetting ironwork and gully / access chamber construction.
Installation of road signs and other small civil works.
Soft estate maintenance works (e.g. grass cutting, strimming, etc.)
Traffic Management operations.
The post holder will be required to participate in out-of-hours winter maintenance and emergency response activities on a rota basis, which will sometimes involve working unsociable hours, weekends and public holidays.

Highways maintenance experience.
A current, valid driving licence is essential, with LGV Class 2.
Willing to work flexible hours and overtime when required.
A good understanding of health and safety and its impact on the workplace.
Ability to work safely and productively with minimum supervision.
Able to give clear instruction, provide mentoring for apprentices and trainees.
Good communication and interpersonal skills will be necessary
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with customers both internally and externally.
Experience of working in the public eye or other customer-facing roles would be advantageous.
Demonstrable awareness of environmental aspects and impacts and waste management.
NVQ or City & Guilds training in the use of salt-spreading vehicles is desirable.
Relevant New Roads and Streetworks or NHSS 12 training and qualifications would be highly beneficial.
Experience in the use of handheld technology (Tablets, PDAs, Smartphones, etc.) would be advantageous but not essential. Local knowledge of the county would be beneficial.
To carry out any other reasonable duties that may be directed or implied from time to time commensurate to the post and/or organisational requirements.
