Reporting to the Supervisor. Ringway Jacobs are responsible for providing the resource for the maintenance of the Rights of Way (ROW) network within Buckinghamshire. The main purpose of the role is to assist the ROW team in delivering routine maintenance and construction works as. The main objective under this work stream is to maintain pedestrian access along the ROW network at designated locations across the county. Reporting to the Depot Supervisor, the individual will assist in carrying out maintenance including the clearing of vegetation from existing ROW, construction of bridges and the instillation of stiles/gates/marker posts and/or signs.


Seasonal maintenance operations including cyclical grass and vegetation cutting.

Strimming/siding out grass cutting along designated ROW/footpaths, sign cleaning and replacement, sign post erection, hedge cutting, repair and /or installation of new or replacement kissing gates / styles / field gates and the repair and/or construction of timber bridges.

Provide general support to the area maintenance team.

Deliver works as part of a small gang/team as instructed by the BCC ROW team maintaining a high quality of work.

To have and be able to apply an appropriate range of general maintenance skills.

Receive pre-start paperwork and undertake 5 minute briefing.

Ensure receipt and understanding of works packs, including method statements and risk assessments. 

Completion of site specific risk assessment forms assessing in line with the safe systems of work.

Completion of daily record sheets and associated site documents.

Support Supervisor objectives in delivery of required outputs.

Ensure health and safety of self and colleagues on site.

Completion of inspections of plant, machinery and vehicles.

Ensure waste is dealt with in the appropriate manner.

The post holder will be required to participate in out-of-hours winter maintenance and emergency response activities on a rota basis, which will sometimes involve working unsociable hours, weekends and public holidays.

Skills and Experience

Have an understanding of the principles of Health, Safety and the Environment.

Attendance of training provided by Ringway Jacobs.

Attend briefings and tool box talks as required.

Ability to deal effectively with peers, client representatives and deal with the general public in a professional and polite manner.

Self-motivator and team player.


Possesses multiple skills to deliver and demonstrate desired outcome to the team.
