Description

Reporting to the Ganger / Supervisor. The purpose of the role is to provide a first class service to our customers, completing a high standard of maintenance to the highway network, helping to ensure that all maintenance activities are delivered to suitable quality in accordance with the strategies and policies of the County Council


Responsibilities

To be the public face of the Council and highly visible to residents, road users and other customers on a day-to-day basis, which means appropriate levels of conduct, professionalism and courtesy are required at all times.

Pothole repair and carriageway defect reinstatements.

Carriageway and footway patching and construction.

Drainage works, including laying pipes, resetting ironwork and gully / access chamber construction.

Kerbing works.

Installation of road signs and other small civil works.

Able to take responsibility for traffic management.

To have and be able to apply an appropriate range of general maintenance skills.

Receive pre-start paperwork and undertake 5 minute briefing.

Ensure receipt and understanding of works packs, including method statements and risk assessments. 

Completion of site specific risk assessment forms assessing in line with the safe systems of work.

Completion of daily record sheets and associated site documents.

Support Supervisor objectives in delivery of required outputs.

Ensure health and safety of self and colleagues on site.

Completion of inspections of plant, machinery and vehicles.

Ensure waste is dealt with in the appropriate manner.

The post holder will be required to participate in out-of-hours winter maintenance and emergency response activities on a rota basis, which will sometimes involve working unsociable hours, weekends and public holidays.


Skills and Experience

Between 2 and 5 years relevant experience.

Organised self-motivator and team player.

Have an understanding of the principles of Health, Safety and the Environment.

Possesses skills to deliver desired outcomes with limited guidance.

Attendance of training provided by Ringway Jacobs.

Able to give clear basic instructions.

Provide instruction and mentor apprentices and trainees.

Deliver briefings and tool box talks as required.

Ability to deal effectively with peers, client representatives and deal with the general public in a professional and polite manner.

Possesses multiple skills to deliver and demonstrate desired outcome to the team

Understands and behaves safely, encourages others to behave safely and helps develop new safety processes.

Able to carry out basic safety, quality and environmental audits and risk assessments

Working knowledge and ability to take responsibility for traffic management.

Demands and delivers high standards, has a passion for customer service that challenges poor service delivery.

Take personal responsibility for work produced, makes decisions and provides detailed solutions when escalating decisions upwards.

Understands customer’s needs, takes ownership and directs the team to achieve the desired outcome.

Appropriately skilled trade’s person.

LGV.

Winter Maintenance qualification.

12 A/B Traffic Management.

Valid NRSWA.

Valid CSCS card.
