This is an exciting opportunity to lead the internal Street Lighting Design capability across Ringway Jacobs to position the service as industry leading with quality and innovation being at the heart of the service. Deliver a high quality service to the existing five framework clients whilst maintaining and growing the external portfolio of clients. This key role, will be responsible for resource management and development of an extensive design team who are situated on five Ringway Jacobs Frameworks. This role will be based on one of our Ringway Jacobs framework contracts (London, Buckinghamshire, Central Bedfordshire, Essex or Cheshire East). The role will involve travel to each contract to engage with the respective design teams and clients, therefore there will be occasions when overnight stays will be necessary.


Resource and programme management for contract based design teams

Build strong relationships with clients, developers and external parties

Be accountable for the P&L for the street lighting design service

Working with the Street Lighting Operation Managers on scheme deliverability and ECI

Lead and grow the street lighting design programme for all existing and new clients

Ensure suitable electrical approval for street lighting designs

Providing day to day technical support to Ringway Jacobs

Ensure that the team are delivering to the latest specification and standards

Ensure that designs comply with Health and Safety (CDM) requirements

Recruit and create development and succession plans for all street lighting designers

Develop strong links with Developers to create a pipeline beyond the current portfolios

Develop strong relationships with suppliers, to ensure adoption of latest technology and innovations

Work with the finance team to ensure that the budget is met and reported

Preparing performance reports for the Ringway Jacobs Board covering all aspects of Street lighting Design

Support clients in funding opportunities and bidding following through with delivery of the designs

Promote Ringway Jacobs street lighting design reputation within the industry

Skills and Experience

Have at least 10 years’ experience within the street Lighting industry 

Have or working towards a relevant professional qualification

Be an experienced lighting designer with a working knowledge of the relevant standards 

High level of written and oral communications skills

Experience in managing teams (Preferable experienced in managing remote teams)

Sound understanding of CDM Regulations

Commercial awareness and understanding of profit and loss in a consultancy based business

Experience of managing programmes of highway lighting works

Track record of introducing innovation and technology based solutions

Full Driving licence

Degree/HNC in Electrical Engineering or related discipline

ILP Exterior Lighting Diploma or equivalent qualification

G39 Electrical Safety Qualification
