The main purpose of the role is to carry out highway maintenance and construction works, directing a small gang of operatives. We have roles based out of our Brunswick and Wardle Depot.


Work as part of the highway maintenance operational team

Manage and direct a small highway maintenance gang

Ensure that all information required to carry out works is available and clear

Receive daily briefings and communicate clearly to other members of the gang

Complete daily record sheets and associated documents

All works are carried out safely

Ensure that works are completed to the required standard and within required timescales

Report safety concerns

Ensure waste is dealt with in the appropriate manner

Completion of site specific risk assessment forms assessing in line with the safe systems of work

Assist with inspection of plant, machinery and vehicle

Winter maintenance/ out of hours’ work

Skills and Experience


Possesses multiple skills to deliver and demonstrate desired outcome to the team

Understands and behaves safely, encourages others to behave safely and helps develop new safety processes

Able to carry out basic safety, quality and environmental audits and risk assessments

Ability to deal effectively with peers, client representatives and the general public

Able to take responsibility for traffic management

Able to give clear basic instruction

Drives the team by example, explaining customer requirements clearly and concisely and delivers work on or exceeding targets

Demands and delivers high standards, has a passion for customer service that challenges poor service delivery

Take personal responsibility for work produced, makes decisions and provides detailed solutions when escalating decisions upwards

Understands customer’s needs, takes ownership and directs the team to achieve the desired outcome

Develop and implement new ways of working to stretch performance, improve efficiency and deliver value for money

Minimum of 5 years’ highways maintenance experience

Multi Skilled trades person


Winter Maintenance experience

12 A/B Traffic Management

Highway maintenance and construction to include setting out, paving, kerb installation and realignment, edging installation, bituminous materials, drainage, signs to an excellent standard


Valid CSCS card
