Description

The purpose of this role is to provide specialised training and support for the avoidance of underground and over ground services as well as on site utility surveys and UST audits.


Responsibilities

Skilled in the use of all equipment used in the detection of utility services

Providing support to all teams in the location of and avoidance of underground services

Survey and produce marked up plans or computer aided drawings (where required) showing the locations of services for use by the operational teams  

Provide skilled advice to the operational teams following surveys, in the safe methods to be utilised in excavations

To train operatives in the effective use of Cable Detection Equipment & techniques

To train operatives in the understanding of Utility plans and drawings

To liaise and train operatives in the supply chain in the effective use of Cable Detection Equipment & Techniques and in the understanding of Utility plans and drawings

To assist operatives in the identification of utility plant

To liaise with utility companies and clients / consultants to obtain site plans of underground and overhead plant

To assist investigating instances of damage to utility plant and recommend actions to prevent re-occurrence

To keep records of all training provided and regularly report on progress to Area and Operations Managers.

To be Contract champion in the location of utilities, hazard identification and the risks associated with them, reading and interpreting site plans

Leading and coordinating contract training and the practical use of equipment

Develop and update training for planning work, using cable plans, cable locating devices and safe digging practices in accordance with company processes

Undertake ad-hoc site audits to ensure compliance with company procedures, training site staff where improvement is needed

To ensure all Ringway Jacobs Health and Safety Policies and Procedures are adhered to

To follow and utilise the Business Management System (RJMS)

Incident Management – assisting with incident investigations as required, supporting the appointed investigating officer and downloading/ interpreting data from CAT and GENNY

Maintain an awareness of developments and improvement in technology used in detection of services

Partake in working groups as required representing the company

Undertake traffic management assessments prior to on site works for maintenance work

Any other reasonable duties as requested by line management including resilience in Operational activities such as Incident Support Unit

Join the rota for OOH call outs and Winter Maintenance activities

 


Skills and Experience

 

UST surveyor training including QCF level 3

Ability to conduct effective training with staff, operatives and subcontractors

An understanding of the principles of appropriate Health and Safety

Ability to operative Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and appropriate software

Ability to work unsupervised at times

Ability to prioritise work and manage workload

Ability to generate GS6 assessments for overhead cables

New roads and street work Act 1991 (NRSWA) and associated codes of practice

Clean HGV2 license

Winter Maintenance NVQ
