3D LASER Surveying

case study

3D laser surveying is transforming the way we carry out engineering inspections.

3D laser surveying is transforming the way we carry out engineering inspections.

This technology was recently used in Essex to carry out a principal inspection of Pitsea Flyover railway spans.

Traditionally, this type of survey would have required a special agreement from Network Rail to access the track - a time consuming and costly process. Instead, the Ringway Jacobs Structures team commissioned Jacobs Geomatics to undertake 3D based laser surveys of the railway spans section of the flyover.

Benefits included a quick turnaround, reduced cost, easier access to the site, more efficient data processing, and top-notch visualisations which can be viewed and interrogated from any angle back in the office.

It’s another example of how we are able to use expertise and the latest technology from within our wider company organisation.
