A51 Nantwich
case study
A major reconstruction project safeguarded a busy 750-metre section of the A51 in Nantwich, Chesire.
The scheme is a positive example of how collaborative work across our teams, with our customers, our contractors, and our supply chain partners plays a fundamental part in delivering such challenging schemes.
Facing extra challenges due to the close proximity of the Trent and Mersey Canal, as well as being a major route for heavy haulage traffic the project on time and to budget.
The scheme is a positive example of how collaborative work across our teams, with our customers.
During the project the Ringway Jacobs team at Cheshire East Highways:
- Fully excavated 680 linear metres to reconstruct all layers of the road
- Replaced 900 linear metres of surface water drainage network
- Installed new kerbs along with 30 new gullies
- Replaced 680 linear metres of existing safety barrier.
- Resurfaced 6,700 square metres of the road.
- Recycled 1,676 tonnes and diverted excavated material from landfill, reducing the consumption of 942 tonnes of virgin aggregate
- Introduced enhanced traffic management with the Airlock Gate System (used to control access to the site), which changed driver behaviour by improving visibility of the closure
- Held a safety innovation day where our key partners demonstrated site safety innovations including remotely managed gate systems, recycled PPE, Ecosmart Solar van and 360-degree remote cameras.
