Essex Highways shortlisted for two industry awards

Essex Highways has been shortlisted for two industry awards, recognising its work to improve transport infrastructure, roads and public spaces across the county

Essex Highways has been shortlisted for two major industry awards, recognising the impact of its work to improve transport infrastructure, road networks and public spaces across the county.

Working in partnership with Ringway Jacobs, Essex County Council and the Harlow and Gilston Garden Town Partnership, Essex Highways has been shortlisted in the Exemplary Approach to Active Travel & Public Space category at the National Transport Awards for the Harlow Sustainable Transport Corridor (North to Centre).

The scheme is helping to create safer, greener and better-connected journeys in Harlow. Improvements include new bus lanes, enhanced walking and cycling routes, upgraded crossings, better connections to surrounding areas, and new public spaces, alongside landscaping, signage and lighting.

Meanwhile, Priority One has been shortlisted in the Renewals and Maintenance category at the British Construction & Infrastructure Awards 2026.

The £25 million Priority One programme delivered a major package of highway improvements across Essex in just eight months. This included 128 additional road resurfacing schemes, covering 400,000 square metres, as well as vegetation clearance, drainage repairs, signage improvements and new road markings.

The two shortlists recognise the expertise, collaboration and commitment of the teams and partners involved in delivering improvements that benefit communities across Essex.

The winners of the National Transport Awards will be announced at a ceremony in London on 1 October, with the British Construction & Infrastructure Awards taking place two weeks later.

Both nominations represent important recognition for the work being delivered across the county and the difference it makes to residents, road users and local communities.
